Pete & Kirsty

PETER COBBIN & KIRSTY WHALLEY ← that’s us

We have been working together for more than 20 years and have mixed hundreds of film scores. Over seventy of these have been box office №1’s (plenty of successful records too) and we have learnt a few things along the way.

With similar work values and a longstanding shared intuition we have challenged, renewed and honed our work practices throughout our careers. We take pride in being innovative and like to creatively seek solutions for the most demanding of projects. Our many years of experience and overlapping skills bring a shorthand efficiency and combined strength to our production ideas and ethos.

As a team we are capable of juggling difficult workflows especially for film schedules. We bring a joint musical mindset to our projects and with the flexibility of having our mix room, our company provides a valuable service to the British and International film and music industries.

Below is a brief outline of our career backgrounds.

KIRSTY WHALLEY

Kirsty is a technical wizard. Having a love for things electrical Kirsty made her own metronome when she was 10 and a half. Already then she was making the connection between things technical and things musical. Her obsession with music coupled with matters of geek-ness led her to the ultimate grail of becoming a Tonmeister at the University of Surrey.

A recipient of nominations and industry awards, Kirsty is probably one of the few women (if not the only) to mix an Oscar winning score - “Shape of Water” for Alexandre Desplat.

PETER COBBIN

Summarising Peter’s 35+ years behind the glass is a challenge and with his foot to the floor for the whole ride the task is made more difficult - it is extraordinary how much he has accomplished.

In 1995 Pete attained engineering nirvana when he was invited to become senior engineer at Abbey Studios. Until setting up Such Sweet Thunder some 21 years later he was often heard saying "this has got to be the best job in the world!"

It is with a huge smile that Peter's current focus on Such Sweet Thunder allows him to concentrate his commitment, vision and undying enthusiasm to the craft he most loves - and where it all began - making music.
